The fire is now extinguished, crews remain on scene and road closures remain in place, and will so for the next few hours.

There is a structure fire on Blackall Street in Barton.

Significant smoke is present in the area. If affected, close doors and windows, and remain indoors. Individuals with respiratory conditions should take additional care.

ACT Fire & Rescue, the ACT Ambulance Service, and ACT Policing are in attendance.

A section of Blackall Street is closed while emergency operations are underway.

The community is asked to avoid the area.
