Juvenile Fire Awareness Intervention Program

JFAIP is a fire safety education program delivered to young people who have engaged or been identified as having fire risk behaviour.

  • The program is free and confidential.
  • Facilitated by trained firefighters from ACT Fire & Rescue
  • Delivered face-to-face at home, or at school as required.

Take action if you notice:

  • Matches and lighters found in a child or young person’s items
  • Burn marks around the home or on items like toys, paper, rubbish or garden leaves & sticks
  • A child showing an extreme interest in fire

Outcomes of the program

Across several sessions, firefighters will educate the young person about the consequences of fire.

After getting to know the young person and their personal situation, dependent upon age, maturity and severity of the situation, firefighters might use the following tools:

  • Kids' books
  • Videos of fire behaviour
  • Examples of exploded aerosol cans
  • Provide some examples of the consequence of fire
