Total Fire Ban for Saturday 10 January 2026

A Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) has been declared 12:00 AM – Saturday, 10 January 2026 to 11:59 PM Saturday, 10 January 2026. 

A Total Fire Ban means no fires out in in the open.  
 

During a Total Fire Ban it is an offence to: 

  • Light, maintain or use a fire in the open air.
  • Undertake a high-risk activity. These are activities which may cause fire to ignite, which includes hot works such as welding, grinding, soldering and gas cutting.
  • Use slashers or harvesting machinery in rural areas. 
     

During a Total Fire Ban you are allowed to use gas or electric cooking appliances if: 

  • The BBQ is under constant adult supervision.
  • Three metres surrounding the BBQ is clear of materials that could burn.
  • A fire extinguisher or continuous supply of water is available for use to extinguish a fire. 

Electric BBQs in Parks and Reserves including the National Arboretum Canberra and in Canberra’s urban parks will be available, however all gas BBQs will be turned off.

The Fire Danger Rating for Saturday, 10 January 2026 is: Extreme 

  • These are dangerous fire conditions.
  • Check your Survival Plan and that your property is fire ready.
  • If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
  • Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas
  • Fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

Information for ACT Horse Owners

A horse relocation centre will be open on Saturday, 10 January 2026 at Queanbeyan Showground for ACT horse owners wanting to relocate animals during the declared Total Fire Ban.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Gates will be open 8 AM - 8 PM. Enter via Glebe Avenue
  • You must provide your own food and water
  • Horses cannot be left unattended, you must remain onsite

An ACT Rural Officer will be present at the showground throughout the day to assist owners.
