Firefighters from ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation Service are conducting two Hazard Reduction Burns today.
A 4.99 hectare burn will take place in the Tharwa Recreation Area between the Murrumbidgee River and Naas Road.
Sections of a 95.1 hectare burn will begin in grasslands between Pialligo Avenue and Oaks Estate Road in Majura.
Experienced firefighters will conduct and oversee the burning operations.
Fire tankers and support vehicles will remain onsite for the duration of the burn, departing once the burn area has been deemed safe.
Every effort is made to conduct burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke but temporary smoke cover is likely to be visible across parts of Canberra.
