Storm and Flood Assistance
The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has received over 100 calls for help from the recent thunderstorm activity and high winds. Some Triple Zero calls for assistance from the community have also been received.
Tuggeranong has been the worst affected area so far with ACTSES volunteers, ACT Fire & Rescue, Transport Canberra and City Services as well as crews from NSWSES responding to calls.
The majority of requests for assistance have been for trees and branches down across roads and pathways.
The Bureau of Meteorology's severe thunderstorm warning for the ACT and surrounding region has been cancelled.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the dust or smoke.
People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
Residents who require storm or flood assistance are reminded to call the ACTSES on 132 500.
