ACT Fire & Rescue has praised the actions of staff following a small fire this morning at The Canberra Hospital.
Fire crews were alerted to the incident at 9:31am.
Firefighters arrived to find a deep fryer alight in the main kitchen of the hospital at Garran.
Kitchen staff had covered the appliance with a fire blanket and evacuated the area.
Fire crews are now waiting for the fryer to cool down before they completely extinguish the fire.
"Staff did a great job. They followed their emergency procedure and help prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the kitchen," ACT Fire & Rescue commander Steve Gibbs said.
"Staff have been allowed back into the kitchen to ensure food service to patients is not interrupted."
