ACT Fire & Rescue has responded to reports of smoke issuing from the fourth floor of an apartment building in Belconnen.
Crews were alerted to the incident on Chandler Street at 1:21pm and responded with three fire pumpers, the Bronto aerial appliance, breathing apparatus support and a commander vehicle.
It was discovered that the smoke had been caused by a barbecue fire on a balcony. The fire was put out by the resident and firefighters accessed the apartment to ensure the blaze had been properly extinguished.
No serious damage or injuries were reported.
ACT Fire & Rescue reminds Canberra residents that barbecues should always be closely monitored while being used and that the message "Don't stop looking while you're cooking" applies just as much to barbecues as it does indoor cooking, if not more so.
