The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct two hazard reduction burns tomorrow (Saturday 16th May, 2015) weather permitting.
The first burn will commence at 10.00am in Oxley adjacent to Mckibbin Place and Newman Morris Circuit.
16 ACTRFS personnel will conduct the burn with one heavy tanker, three medium tankers, one light unit and two command vehicles. The burn will be approximately 3 hectares in size.
The purpose of the burn is reduce a fuel hazard.
The second burn tomorrow will occur within Stirling Park at Yarralumla adjacent to Fitzgerald Stree.
This burn will be conducted by the ACTRFS on behalf of the National Capital Authority (NCA).
15 volunteer firefighters will conduct the burn with three heavy tankers, two medium tankers, and two command vehicles. The burn will be approximately 2 hectares in size.
The purpose of the burn is reduce a fuel hazard.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in both areas.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
