City student accommodation evacuated

Up to 300 people have been evacuated after a fire in a student accommodation complex in Civic.

ACT Fire & Rescue was called to Uni Lodge on Childers Street just after 10:30pm.

Firefighters arrived a short time later to find a small food fire on level five of the building.

The fire was quickly extinguished while residents were evacuated.

Fire crews are currently ventilating smoke from the building before allowing people back inside.
