Two hazard reduction burns will take place today, Saturday 17 May, 2014, weather permitting, west of Macgregor and adjacent to Yarramundi Reach.
The burn west of Macgregor will be conducted by a private landholder on Parkwood Road.
The other hazard reduction burn today will be undertaken by the ACT Rural Fire Service to assist the National Capital Authority north-east of the National Zoo and Aquarium at Lindsay Pryor National Arboretum, east of the Tuggeranong Parkway and adjacent to Yarramundi Reach.
This burn is expected to commence from 9.30am until 5pm. More information on the burn can be found at www.nationalcapital.gov.au.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
