The ACT Rural Fire Service will tomorrow, Sunday 19 May, 2013, conduct two hazard reduction burns at Kowen and Nicholls.
The Kowen burn will commence at 9.30am east of the Yass and Sutton Roads intersection, between the Molonglo River and Railway line.
Two heavy tankers, two command vehicles, one medium tanker, one light unit and 15 personnel will conduct the burn, which will be approximately 14 hectares in size.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Pialligo burn will be M13.
The Nicholls burn will commence at 11.30am, in a reserve near Stedman Place and Viner Place.
One heavy tanker, one medium tanker, one command vehicle and eight personnel will conduct the burn of approximately one hectare.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Nicholls burn will be K9.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
